Performance-Based vs. Prescriptive Specifications

The Port-A-Pour is a performance-based plant.  We believe that concrete performance is the ultimate test.  Meeting prescriptive specifications does not guarantee concrete performance.  Our customers are consistently exceeding break strength requirements as well as meeting slump & air requirements.  The Port-A-Pour patented process of pre-blending of fluidized cement with the aggregates results in a higher percentage of cement being hydrated, and a more accurate delivery of chemicals. The concrete industry is moving more towards performance based specs.  Check out the NRMCA's P2P Initiative.  Their website has published extensive research results and articles around this issue of prescriptive specifications vs. performance-based specification.  If performance is what matters, you can have confidence in the proven track record of the Port-A-Pour.
