Wastewater Treatment Project

Contractor: Lillard & Clark Construction
Project: Westminster Water Treatment Facility
Location: Westminster, Colorado
Dates:
September 2005 - August 2007
Lillard & Clark purchased a Port-A-Pour Series-II batch
plant in September of 2005. The plant was immediately
placed into service at a wastewater treatment facility
to supply concrete for the expansion of the facility.
The quantity of concrete required is 12,000 cu. yards.
Currently, they are using 2 mix designs. The
compressive strength required is 4,000-psi minimum. The
project started out with a straight 7-sack cement mix
and a fly-ash option was added shortly after. They have
adjusted the mix design to 6¼-sacks total cement with
25% fly ash. Using an air entrainment admixture and
mid-range water reducers, they are averaging 5,800-psi
compressive strength.
A consulting engineering firm is performing quality
control tests. The project is more than 80% complete and
there have been no test failures.
The plant has eliminated scheduling problems.
